In the city of Taxco, one of the most important in the state of Guerrero, it has become a pleasant habit that, the first Monday of each month of November, the inhabitants of the place, climb the hill of Jumil, to collect the homonymous insect. After obtaining large quantities of it, they take it to their homes to be fed with it, prepared fried or well seasoned. Animal highly valued and venerated since prehispanic times, the jumil attributed to the inhabitants of Taxco, Guerrero and Morelos, stimulating and beneficial properties for the organism. The Aztecs used to make a pilgrimage to the hill of Huixteco, in present-day Taxco, to ascend to the summit, where there was a temple dedicated to jumil. This is the origin of the Day of the Jumil, which in an atmosphere of popular joy, includes the dances of the Jumileros, same that are made with music of violins and guitars. The season for collecting jumiles begins in October, since these insects reproduce in the lower parts of the Cerro del Huixteco and are ground with onion, chile and tomato, to be added to the beef or pork. Jumil Day is one of the oldest and most picturesque events in Taxco.
